Dr. Gollakota Rama Somayajulu (“Aniruddha”) was born on July 2, 1928 in Pithapuram, Andhra Pradesh, India. From an early age he developed deep interest in language, philosophy, literature, and scientific inquiry.

Dr. Somayajulu was born into a family deeply connected with education, scholarship, and public accomplishment. His father, Sri Gollakota Venkataramiah, was a respected science teacher, educationist, and author who published pioneering Telugu school textbooks and educational works during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

His elder brother, Sri G. S. Dixit, gained national recognition as a chess champion during the 1950s and won major competitions including the Kasturi Cup, bringing distinction to the family in the field of intellectual and competitive achievement.

He completed his B.Sc. from Andhra University, M.Sc. from Banaras Hindu University, and Ph.D. in Chemistry from Jadavpur University. He later worked at Osmania University, the University of California Berkeley, and Texas A&M University, where he contributed extensively to chemistry, thermodynamics, and molecular structure research.

Alongside his scientific career, Dr. Somayajulu devoted decades to Sanskrit literature, the Upanishads, Indian philosophy, comparative religion, linguistic traditions, and consciousness studies.

Writing under the pen name “Aniruddha,” he produced an extraordinary body of work combining philosophical depth, scientific discipline, literary creativity, and spiritual inquiry.

Dr. G. R. Somayajulu passed away on May 29, 2021, leaving behind a vast body of scientific, literary, philosophical, and cultural contributions.
