POETRY & REFLECTIONS
Philosophical reflections and poetic writings from the works of Dr. G. R. Somayajulu (“Aniruddha”).
In an eternal cycle
Moves the mind from one
state to another,
Sleeping, dreaming and
waking.
In that mind which sleeps,
dreams, and wakes up
There exists the witness, the permitter,
The inner controller, the blissful mind,
The cosmic mind, the mind of the cyclic mind,
The cause of the cyclic universe.
When it sleeps, it is tamas,
The unconsciousness in the form of body;
When it dreams, it is rajas,
The semiconsciousness in the form of vitality;
When it wakes up, it is sat,
The consciousness which is space-like.
There is no beginning;
There is no middle;
There is no end;
This is cyclic;
This is periodic;
It changes from one state to another,
Yet there is no change in the cosmic mind.
There is no teacher for you,
There is no meditation for you,
There is no instruction for you,
You are the teacher,
You are the instructor,
You are the object of meditation,
You are everything.
You have none to follow,
You have none to abandon,
You have none to lead,
You have none to ask for instruction,
Discover for yourself what you are.
For there is no teacher for you.
If you want to know the truth
Lift the mountains on your fingertips,
Drink the oceans in a gulp,
Use the stars as dice,
And roll up the space
As if it were a piece of leather!
O brother!
It isn’t easy!
But don’t give up!
Many a time have I sung this song
to all men alike,
Those who listen reach the goal,
Those who shun fall.
O Man, the immortal being,
Do not be fooled by the nature’s work,
Nature is your servant, not your master,
Let not nature bind your vision.
The desires you have
are nature’s secret work,
The acts you perform
are the nature’s secret acts.
You have freewill,
when you are the master,
You have no freewill,
when you are at nature’s command.
You have happiness,
when you are the master,
You are miserable,
when you are a slave.
Rise above the nature’s power,
Revolt against your destiny,
Seek the Immortal Self,
and be blissful.
